The Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies will honor the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) with its Partnership Award during the Joint Center’s Annual Gala Dinner on May 7 at the Mandarin Oriental in Washington, D.C.

The CBC will receive the award for its efforts to build strategic relationships within the realm of public policy to expand hope, opportunity and progress in minority and underserved communities across the country.  The CBC and the Joint Center have a longstanding relationship with the goal of generating policy solutions for communities of color on a range of critical social and economic issues.

During the event, titled “Jobs. Partnerships. Progress.”, Ambassador Susan E. Rice, the U.S. Permanent Representative to the United Nations, will receive the Joint Center’s 2013 Louis E. Martin Great American Award and Vice President Joe Biden will give remarks.

“It is an incredible honor for the Congressional Black Caucus to receive this award,” said CBC Chair Marcia L. Fudge. “Through our history, the Caucus has relied on its partnerships with organizations like the Joint Center to ensure the policies we support help our communities advance in the right direction. The Joint Center’s efforts have raised awareness of how policies uniquely impact communities of color and have informed our Members of ways we can best target resources to the communities that need them the most. We appreciate the Joint Center’s partnership and look forward to continuing the work of tackling our nation’s most critical issues together.”

“The Congressional Black Caucus is driving policy innovations and demonstrating a clear commitment to job creation, better health care and a better life in communities of color across our nation,” said Cynthia G. Marshall, Chair of the Joint Center’s Board of Governors.  “Our two organizations are constantly looking to find new ways for the Joint Center to provide research support for the CBC’s agenda, and we are proud to work with them as partners in our common effort to expand hope and opportunity in every community.”
