CBC Statement on Trump's Latest Attack on Federal Workers

Today, the Chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus, Congressman Cedric L. Richmond (D-LA-02), released the following statement in reaction to the news that the White House unilaterally froze pay increases for federal workers:

“With the passing of another day comes another attack on hard-working Americans to please radical elements of the President's base and to help the wealthy. I am furious that the President has decided on his own to further harm hard-working families by rescinding a pay increase they earned because of their contributions to this country. Federal workers help respond to disasters, prosecute hate crimes, care for our veterans, keep our food and airplanes safe, and protect our communities.

This political ploy ahead of election season will hurt real families. I call on my Republican colleagues to join the CBC to reverse this evil action. The president must stop playing games with people's lives and start being serious about being a leader that tries to help all people, instead of handing out pain to Americans that have done nothing wrong. What he has done is shameful and foolish. It is disgraceful that a man who has never had to work hard is stealing from people who are working hard to feed their families in order to pay for massive and unnecessary tax cuts for wealthy families.”
