CBC Chairman Statement on Passing of Veteran African-American Broadcast Journalist George Wilson

Today, the Chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus, Congressman Cedric L. Richmond (D-LA-02), released the following statement on the passing of George Wilson, a veteran African-American broadcast journalist who covered Capitol Hill, the White House, and local Washington, DC politics. He was also a syndicated columnist.

“The 48-members of the Congressional Black Caucus send our thoughts and prayers to George Wilson’s loved ones. But for George Wilson who covered the Congressional Black Caucus day in and day out for decades, the work of our members would not have gotten as much news coverage as it did.

“George Wilson’s life and legacy are a testament to why having the Black Press and African-American reporters at major news outlets is so important. He worked hard to make sure the country knew about African Americans’ ongoing struggle for justice and equality, and trained many other talented African-American journalists to follow in his footsteps.”
