Congressional Black Caucus Chair Marcia L. Fudge’s Statement on the Ryan Budget
Congressional Black Caucus Chair Marcia L. Fudge released the following statement today after House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan released this year’s version of the Republican budget:
“The financial plan presented by Chairman Ryan proposes to balance the country’s budget on the backs of middle class and working families. It claims to put communities first, but instead prioritizes tax cuts for corporations and the wealthy over funding for the programs that many Americans rely on, such as Medicare and Medicaid, Pell grants, job training initiatives, and much needed investments in transportation and infrastructure. With this budget, these programs, already significantly reduced in 2011, would face additional devastating cuts that will push vulnerable communities into further economic distress.
“This week, the Congressional Black Caucus will put forth a responsible budget proposal that balances the well being of working families and the middle class by doing what is best for our fiscal future. We remain committed to a solution that will get this country back on the path to prosperity, but not at the expense of the most vulnerable. The CBC will not perpetuate the debate that suggests we must choose one over the other.”
