Congressional Black Caucus Chair Marcia L. Fudge’s Statement on Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day
Congressional Black Caucus Chair Marcia L. Fudge released the following statement celebrating Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day:
“Today and throughout this month, we celebrate the many contributions women have made in this country and around the world. Women demonstrate that when provided the opportunity, we often lead with an unwavering commitment to improving our communities and to creating an environment where generations beyond our own can succeed.
“We also acknowledge today, that while great strides have been made, so much more must be done. There are numerous places around the world where women and girls are denied access to education, healthcare and to the ability to become leaders through elected office or through opportunities in the workforce. This must come to an end. Statistics show that when women do well, communities can do even better.
“This week, Members of Congress worked together to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act, championed by CBC Member Rep. Gwen Moore. I hope my colleagues continue this momentum and use it to defend the many programs on which women rely to protect themselves, provide for and support their families.
“The Congressional Black Caucus celebrates women this month, and continues its dedication to a world where gender inequity and inequality are phrases of the past.”
