Today, the Chairman of the bicameral, bipartisan 49-member Congressional Black Caucus (CBC), Congressman Cedric L. Richmond (D-La.), released a statement on President Trump’s plans to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA).

DACA is an immigration program that allows young people who were brought to this country as children through no fault of their own to receive a renewable two-year period of deferred action from deportation and eligibility for a work permit. The program was started by the Obama Administration in June 2012.

“Once again, President Trump has shown his ignorance of what makes America great in the first place and the very people who contribute to that greatness. His morally bankrupt policy will tear young people, folks who were brought to this country as children through no fault of their own, away from their families and the only home they’ve ever known.

“The CBC will continue to work with our colleagues in the Congressional Hispanic Caucus and other defenders of DACA to ensure these young people have the protections they deserve. They grew up here, go to school here, and work here and should have the opportunity to achieve the American Dream.”
