Today, the Congressional Black Caucus Chairman, Congressman Cedric Richmond (D-LA-02), issued a statement on the Senate’s confirmation of Betsy DeVos as Secretary of the Department of Education.
“Despite unprecedented engagement from parents, teachers, and students across the country, an unqualified, unprepared, uninformed billionaire who has spent her life engaged in efforts to attack public education in Michigan is now in charge of our nation’s public schools. While I hope she will lead the Department in a way that results in quality K-12 and higher education for all students, including students of color, hope is not enough. The Congressional Black Caucus will be watching her actions very closely and if they prove to be as extreme as advertised, we will fight her every step of the way.”
