CBC Chairman G. K. Butterfield’s Statement on the Death of Former CBC Member Augustus "Gus" Savage

Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) Chairman G. K. Butterfield (NC-01) released the following statement on the passing of former CBC Member Augustus "Gus" Savage:

“Members of the CBC were saddened to hear of the passing of former Representative Augustus "Gus" Savage, who represented the Second Congressional District of Illinois from 1981 until 1993.  During his six terms in Congress, Rep. Savage was an advocate for some of the country’s most vulnerable citizens and was vocal on critical issues impacting African Americans and minorities throughout Chicago, a city which he loved.  The CBC offers our thoughts and prayers to his family during this very difficult time.”
