Today, Congressional Black Caucus Chairman G. K. Butterfield released the following statement following the success of the Fincher Discharge Petition to force consideration of legislation to reauthorize the Export-Import Bank of the United States.
“The Congressional Black Caucus was unified in our effort to ensure the requisite number of signatures was reached to guarantee the success of the Fincher Discharge Petition, which forces consideration of the rule which provides for consideration of the bill to reauthorize the Export-Import Bank.
“The Export-Import Bank helps ensure that American businesses are competing on a level playing field in the global marketplace.  Today’s accomplishment is a significant step forward in the process to reauthorize the Export-Import Bank which is responsible for creating or sustaining 1.5 million private-sector jobs since 2007.
“It is our expectation that companies that benefit from the reauthorization of the Export-Import Bank will invest in underserved communities, particularly in the African American community, to create jobs that will help reduce unemployment across the country.”
