Congressional Black Caucus Statement on Failed Censure Vote Against Del. Stacey Plaskett (D-VI)

Today, Congressional Black Caucus Chair Yvette D. Clarke (NY-09) and members of the Congressional Black Caucus issued the following statement:

“President Trump, the U.S. Department of Justice, and House Republicans have for months blocked the release of the Epstein files. The discharge petition passed the House not because Republicans stand with the Epstein survivors or support transparency, but because the consistent demands and pleas for justice for these survivors could no longer be ignored. Now, House Republicans are continuing their attempt to distract from President Trump’s exposure in the disturbing Epstein scandal with a sham censure against Del. Stacey Plaskett — a strategy akin to throwing spaghetti at the wall to see what will stick. Unfortunately, despite their best efforts, the American people are not fools, and the CBC and House Democrats will not run scared from a fight.

“The baseless censure resolution against Del. Stacey Plaskett failed because it is nothing more than a partisan and shameful attempt to change the subject — to strip a member of Congress of her committee assignments without due process or proper procedure, based on shady innuendo rather than facts. Unlike President Trump, Del. Plaskett has stood on the side of the survivors — demanding justice, transparency, and accountability.

“At the end of the day, one thing remains true: to this very minute, President Trump has the authority to deliver justice to the courageous survivors and truth to the American people by releasing the Epstein files. If Republicans truly cared about truth and transparency, they would demand the same — not bring this baseless censure against Del. Plaskett. These partisan antics only further expose their unwillingness to hold abusers accountable.

“The CBC stands unwaveringly on the side of the survivors and will continue to fight for accountability. The survivors deserve justice, and the American people deserve the truth, not these partisan political games.”
