Congressional Black Caucus Statement on Retirement of Rep. Danny Davis

Today, Congressional Black Caucus Chair Yvette D. Clarke (NY-09)and members of the Congressional Black Caucus issued the following statement:

“Today, on behalf of the Congressional Black Caucus, I extend our gratitude and highest respect to Congressman Danny Davis for his remarkable fifteen-term legacy of service to the people of Illinois’ 7th Congressional District and to our nation. Since coming to Congress in 1996, Rep. Davis has been a steadfast champion for education, economic justice, criminal justice reform, and access to healthcare for communities that have for too long gone underserved.

“As a dedicated member of the Congressional Black Caucus, Rep. Danny Davis has been a tireless advocate for advancing the rights and well-being of Black communities nationwide. He co-founded and serves as co-chair of the Congressional Caucus on Black Men and Boys, championing policies that address the unique challenges of Black men and boys. Rep. Davis also played a pivotal role alongside then-Senator Barack Obama and then-Rep. Major Owens in passing the College Cost Reduction and Access Act, which significantly expanded access to federal grants for Primarily Black Institutions across the country. As a senior member of the powerful House Ways and Means Committee, he has helped craft landmark legislation that has improved the lives of working families in Illinois and across the nation.

“Today, we celebrate his three decades of service, sacrifice, and unwavering advocacy, and look forward to working alongside him as he completes his service in January 2027. He has set a high bar for public servant leadership and leaves behind a legacy that will inspire generations to come.”
