Since its establishment in 1971, the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) has been committed to using the full Constitutional power, statutory authority, and financial resources of the federal government to ensure that African Americans and other marginalized communities in the United States have the opportunity to achieve the American Dream.
Today, Congressional Black Caucus Chair Yvette D. Clarke (NY-09) and members of the Congressional Black Caucus issued the following statement:
“Once again, President Trump's harmful, anti-Black, and anti-diversity agenda has been rejected in the courts. A federal judge—appointed by a Republican president—ruled that the Trump Administration violated federal law when it arbitrarily terminated over $1 billion in National Institutes of Health research grants focused on the health and well-being of Black and minority communities.
“The Trump Administration has made clear from day one that they are working against our communities. The court’s decision makes abundantly clear that these grants were targeted solely because of the communities they aim to support and that this was nothing more than a discriminatory attack on Black, brown, and LGBTQ+ communities under the guise of policy. The Congressional Black Caucus applauds this ruling and stands firmly in support of the communities it protects. Any attempt to appeal this decision must be met with the same forceful rebuke.”
