Today, Congressional Black Caucus Chair Yvette D. Clarke (NY-09) and members of the Congressional Black Caucus issued the following statement:

“Congresswoman LaMonica McIver maintains the full and unwavering support of the Congressional Black Caucus in light of this baseless indictment. The facts are firmly on her side, and no amount of political theater disguised as law enforcement can alter the truth. 

“Congresswoman McIver, acting in her capacity as a member of the House of Representatives and the Committee on Homeland Security, was conducting legitimate oversight during her visit to Delaney Hall—an action that was not only expected by her constituents but by the American people at large. 

“There is no scenario in which any member of our Caucus will cower away or bend the knee to the Trump Administration's attempts to weaponize the legal system. Their only goal with this sham indictment against Congresswoman McIver, is to make her an example that they hope will intimidate members of a co-equal branch of government from conducting oversight and holding them accountable for their unlawful actions. 

“Congresswoman McIver will face this challenge head-on, and when the truth comes to light, this indictment will be revealed for what it truly is: a brazen attempt at political intimidation."
