Congressional Black Caucus Statement on Trump’s Removal of NTSB Vice Chair Alvin Brown

Today, Congressional Black Caucus Chair Yvette D. Clarke (NY-09) and members of the Congressional Black Caucus issued the following statement:

“Alvin Brown’s dismissal from the National Transportation Safety Board follows a pattern of the Trump Administration ousting Democratic members of independent agencies, including the Federal Trade Commission and National Labor Relations Board. Never in the history of the NTSB has a board member been removed before the completion of their term. This unprecedented action is another example of Republicans’ complete disregard for the independence of federal agencies that are driven by the national interest and not political motivations.

“Since his Senate confirmation in March 2024, Vice Chair Brown’s tenure at the NTSB has been met with high marks. At a time when concerns about transportation safety are front and center, his Board leadership and commitment to saving lives has not wavered. We need steady leadership at the National Transportation Safety Board, not partisan politics.

“As President Trump and MAGA Republicans continue their ongoing mass firings and efforts to replace the federal workforce with Trump loyalists, their policies have made flying less safe for the American people. In recent months, Donald Trump and Elon Musk have fired the head of the Federal Aviation Administration and hundreds of air traffic control employees, and pushed dozens of critical safety personnel out of the FAA while delaying critical funding for aviation safety. These decisions should worry every American.”
