Today, Congressional Black Caucus Chair Yvette D. Clarke (NY-09) and members of the Congressional Black Caucus issued the following statement:
“At the 100-day mark of the Trump Administration, the progress report is in, and by every metric, President Trump has failed. The American people have had enough of the Trump Administration and Congressional Republicans’ racist policies, irresponsibility, and contempt for the Constitution.
“Over the past several weeks, our members have heard directly from their constituents who believe our county is going in the wrong direction. President Trump’s tariffs and other reckless policies are crashing the economy, raising costs for groceries, gas, and other goods, and wiping out the hard-earned retirement savings of middle-class families. Republicans are hellbent on cutting billions from safety net programs which will take food off kitchen tables and vital healthcare services from people in need. These cruel cuts to Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security, and SNAP will leave millions of hard-working Americans without a lifeline while billionaires line their pockets at the expense of our communities.
“For millions of Black Americans around the country, the Trump Administration’s extreme policies pose serious threats to their livelihoods. Whitewashing our history, eliminating critical economic opportunities for our communities, and imposing blatantly racist policies are direct attacks on Black Americans and we will not stand by and allow this administration to take us back in time. The American people are seeing firsthand that the chaos and dysfunction from the Trump Administration and Republicans in Congress is only making life harder for their communities.
“The CBC is united and fighting back to protect our vital programs as Republicans try to pass their dangerous and extreme budget in the coming weeks.”
