Today, Congressional Black Caucus Chair Yvette D. Clarke (NY-09) and members of the Congressional Black Caucus issued the following statement:   

“By every metric, from the cruel and painful firing of hundreds of thousands of federal employees, to the chaotic tariff war that he's waging, President Trump and his Administration have been a complete failure. Instead of working to improve the economy, lower the cost of living, and make everyday necessities more affordable,  Donald Trump’s new reckless budget proposal seeks to cut vital spending from the Department of Education, the Department of Health and Human Services, USAID and the Environmental Protection Agency, among others, in an effort to extend billionaires a tax cut, while raising taxes on middle-class Americans to get to the trillions in dollars they crave. This budget scheme imposes economic hardship on everyday Americans, makes our country less safe, and our communities more vulnerable. We, the members of the CBC, will not be a party to the destruction of our communities and the people we've been elected represent.  This cynical budget is a complete nonstarter.”
