Since its establishment in 1971, the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) has been committed to using the full Constitutional power, statutory authority, and financial resources of the federal government to ensure that African Americans and other marginalized communities in the United States have the opportunity to achieve the American Dream.
Today, Congressional Black Caucus Chair Yvette D. Clarke (NY-09) and members of the Congressional Black Caucus issued the following statement:
“Instead of working to lower the cost of living for everyday Americans and protecting the rights of patriotic civil servants, many of whom have dedicated their lives to making our country a better place for our communities, President Trump and Elon Musk are continuing their efforts to destabilize the federal government.
“Since the Civil Service Reform Act of 1978, the federal workforce has been able to join a union and bargain collectively over their employment terms. Donald Trump's executive order to revoke these rights for hundreds of thousands of federal workers, including veterans and Black and minority workers, is a shameful attempt to unfairly punish and silence competent workers and install people who will carry out his extremist Project 2025 Agenda.
“President Trump cannot claim to represent working class Americans and attack the very unions that fight to improve their rights. This executive order should immediately be met with legal action.”
