Since its establishment in 1971, the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) has been committed to using the full Constitutional power, statutory authority, and financial resources of the federal government to ensure that African Americans and other marginalized communities in the United States have the opportunity to achieve the American Dream.
Today, Congressional Black Caucus Chairman Steven Horsford (NV-04), Chair-elect Yvette D. Clarke (NY-09) and members of the Congressional Black Caucus issued the following statement on the passing of the 39th President of the United States, James Earl Carter, Jr.:
“Today, the Congressional Black Caucus joins the entire nation in mourning the passing of President Jimmy Carter.
“President Carter was a devoted father and husband, man of faith, and proud son of Georgia. He will be remembered as a man of integrity, perseverance, and humility. A former naval officer, governor of the state of Georgia, Nobel Prize recipient, and humanitarian, President Carter leaves an enduring legacy of service to our nation.
“The CBC is proud of our long-standing partnership with President Carter, and grateful for his many years of work dedicated to the causes of civil rights, diplomacy, and upholding our democracy.
“It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to President Carter. His example will continue to be a guiding light for all who knew him. We are keeping his family and loved ones in our thoughts in the days ahead.”
