Today, Congressional Black Caucus Chairman Steven Horsford (NV-04) and members of the Congressional Black Caucus issued the following statement on the passing of Charles J. Ogletree, Jr.:

“For decades, the Congressional Black Caucus has been honored to call Charles Ogletree, Jr. a friend and partner, and today, we extend our sincerest condolences to his wife Mrs. Ogletree and his children Charles III and Rashida.

“Professor Ogletree was a powerhouse civil rights attorney, advocate, author, and educator who worked to shape the minds of some of our nation's preeminent legal minds. Throughout his decorated career, Professor Ogletree worked to advance racial equity and social justice for the marginalized and underserved. He was unrelenting in his pursuit of justice from arguing before the U.S. Supreme Court to leading efforts to secure reparations for the descendants of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre, and so much more. History will remember Professor Ogletree for his courage, tenacity, mentorship, and outsized contributions to the civil rights movement, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.”
