CBC and Chair Beatty Convenes Special Hearing Highlighting 100 Day Plan

Hearing coincides with CBC celebration and recognition of ‘living black history.'

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Congressional Black Caucus (CBC), which includes a historic 58 members during the 117th Congress led by its Chair Joyce Beatty (OH-03), held a hearing today, “Living Black History and Building On Our Past: the CBC 100 Day Plan,” to unveil the CBC’s policy priorities and plan of action for the Biden-Harris Administration’s first 100 days in office. The Chair of the CBC, along with 1st Vice Chair Rep. Steven Horsford (D-NV-04) and 2nd Vice Chair Rep. Brenda Lawrence (D-MI14), provided context to the Living Black History initiative that’s spearheaded by “Our Power, Our Message.” and what’s been accomplished thus far.  During the special event—broadcast live on various social media platforms, including the Grio — we premiered a video recognizing and reflecting on CBC members’ work to secure equality, equity, and equal justice for all Americans.

“We are in a historic time, and the Congressional Black Caucus—through Our Power, Our Message—is uniquely poised to advance an agenda for Black people and the communities we serve,” Beatty said, “In that spirit, I am pleased to announce the establishment of the Domestic Policy Leadership Team and Policy Councils, a collaborative initiative that allows us to leverage the wealth of knowledge housed here within the CBC.” She added, “I know the entire team is excited and ready to engage in this critical work, so expect to see and hear a lot more in the weeks and months ahead, and we engage in virtual town halls, publish policy white papers, conduct briefings, and most importantly, develop and present the CBC Budget.”

For the 117th Congress, the CBC Domestic Policy Leadership Team will be co-chaired by Senator Cory Booker (NJ) and Congresswoman Barbara Lee (CA-13). Policy Councils include Healthcare: COVID-19 Pandemic/Vaccination; George Floyd Justice in Policing Act; Diversity and Inclusion/Social Justice and Racial Equity; Financial Services, Wealth Creation, Small Business, and Economics; Civil Rights, Voting Rights, and the Judiciary; Child Poverty, Housing and Community Reinvestment; Education, Labor, HBCUs; Criminal Justice Reform and Homeland Security, Armed Services and Intelligence; Agriculture and Food Security; Transportation, Infrastructure, Environment and Energy; Budget and Appropriations, Tax; Foreign Affairs and Immigration; Reparations and Reconciliation; and Reapportionment and Redistricting.
