Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) Chair Marcia L. Fudge (OH-11) released the following statement on the passage of House Republican’s resolution to sue the President Barack Obama over alleged abuses of executive authority:
“Speaker Boehner and Republican Leadership continue to make a mockery of our democratic process. Today’s vote is just another misguided attempt in a long series of actions designed to distract the American people from their failed leadership that has caused this Congress to become the most unproductive in American history.
“This law suit is a farce and merely a political stunt that wastes the American people’s time and tax dollars. Republicans claim to be defenders of the Constitution, but they are not. Instead the GOP is undermining the law by suing the President for exercising his authority as the leader of the executive branch – one of the three equal branches of our government. This suit is an attempt to embarrass the President, cast aspersion on his character and continue the Republicans’ march toward their ultimate goal of impeachment.
“The majority of the American people will see that today’s vote is merely an effort to cover Republican Leadership’s absence of ideas and their refusal to address the serious challenges facing our nation. This is another failure of Republican Leadership and another example of their commitment to letting the American people down.”
