Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) Chair Marcia L. Fudge released the following statement on her introduction of the CBC Alternative Budget. Floor debate on the CBC Alternative Budget is scheduled for Wednesday, April 9 at approximately 2:30pm:
“The Congressional Black Caucus has a long history of introducing a budget alternative that protects and invests in programs that are vital to our communities, that ensures millions in this country do not fall deeper into poverty, and that protects our nation’s fiscal future. Tough decisions are required to ensure our country’s fiscal future is intact, but we do not believe the wellbeing of the most vulnerable in this nation must be sacrificed for us to remain on the path to economic recovery. The CBC alternative budget for FY 2015 remains true to those principles.
“I am proud to introduce the CBC Alternative Budget for Fiscal Year 2015, and I look forward to advocating for these policies among my colleagues on both sides of the aisle.”
Highlights of the CBC Alternative Budget for FY 2015 include:
Several options to make our tax code fairer and more able to meet the needs of the nation.
A comprehensive jobs program totaling $500 billion over three years that will accelerate our economic recovery and ensure that no community in America is left behind.
Significant and sustained investments for programs that have been instrumental in lifting millions of Americans out of poverty.
