CBC Chair Marcia L. Fudge’s Statement on Cloture Vote to Proceed with the Confirmation of Judge Robert Leon Wilkins as United States Circuit Judge for the District of Columbia Circuit

Congressional Black Caucus Chair Marcia L. Fudge (OH-11) released the following statement regarding the filing of cloture to end debate that would allow Judge Robert Leon Wilkins to be confirmed as U.S. Circuit Judge for the District of Columbia Circuit.

“Judge Wilkins has been nominated as U.S. Circuit Court Judge for the District of Columbia Circuit, which is known as the nation’s second highest court. This week, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid filed a cloture motion, which moves this nomination closer to confirmation. The bench of the District of Columbia Circuit Court has an over 25 percent vacancy rate and an incredibly important caseload, thus the need for expeditious confirmation of exceptionally qualified judges, such as Judge Wilkins.

“Judge Wilkins was rated “Unanimously Well Qualified” by the American Bar Association and the U.S. Court of Appeals. Furthermore, Wilkins’ admirable public service and his impeccable professional record led to his unanimous confirmation by the Senate to his current position as U.S. District Court Judge just three years ago. We expect the Senate to move toward confirmation without delay.

“Members of the Congressional Black Caucus strongly support President Obama’s nomination of Judge Robert Wilkins and encourage his confirmation by the Senate.”
