Congressional Black Caucus Chair Marcia L. Fudge (OH-11) released the following statement on the election of Lorraine C. Miller to serve as interim President and Chief Executive Officer of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP):

“I am pleased that Lorraine Miller has been chosen to serve as interim president and CEO of the NAACP.  Ms. Miller has an unwavering commitment to the values and vision of the civil rights community, and has been a trusted and proven leader in public service.

“With decades of community service and leadership under her belt, Ms. Miller has served on boards of local civil rights organizations and has held numerous positions in the legislative and executive branches. One of her greatest accomplishments is having served as the 35th Clerk and the first African American official of the U.S. House of Representatives.

“I am confident that in the interim, Ms. Miller will continue to build on the solid foundation set by Ben Jealous and past presidents of the NAACP until a permanent selection is made.”
