Congressional Black Caucus Chair Marcia L. Fudge (OH-11) released the following statement congratulating former Newark Mayor Cory Booker on winning a seat in the U.S. Senate to represent New Jersey in a special election:

“The Congressional Black Caucus is excited to welcome Cory Booker to the United States Senate as the ninth African American elected and the first African American to represent New Jersey in the upper chamber.

“Mr. Booker has an undeniable passion for public service and an ardent commitment to solving problems facing the communities he serves in creative and innovative ways. I look forward to the energy and new ideas Mr. Booker will bring to the nation’s Capitol and we look forward to having him as a Member of the Congressional Black Caucus.”
