Congressional Black Caucus Chair Marcia L. Fudge’s Statement on the
Congressional Hearing on Black Men and Boys
Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) Chair Marcia L. Fudge released the following statement on the “The Status of Black Males: Ensuring Our Boys Mature Into Strong Men,” hearing hosted by the Congressional Caucus on Black Men and Boys. Video of the full hearing is available here.
“Today’s conversation helped elevate the voices and daily experiences millions of African American boys and men around this country. It also provided a call to action for our nation to examine the way we allow damaging stereotypes to affect the way we view and treat African American men of all ages. This topic cannot be taken lightly, as a significant portion of our population is being negatively impacted by the social and structural biases that do not favor their success.
“I thank Tracy Martin, former CBC Chair Kweisi Mfume, Dr. Michael Eric Dyson, and David Johns for sharing their personal stories, insights and recommendations during today’s hearing. And I applaud the co-Chairs of the Congressional Caucus on Black Men and Boys, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) and Congressman Danny K. Davis (IL-07), for their leadership and vision to make sure we all recognize our responsibility in ensuring black men and boys in this country are not forgotten, mistreated, and are no longer left behind.”
