WASHINGTON – Today, the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC), led by Chairman Cedric Richmond (D-La.), called on Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) to remove Chairman Devin Nunes (R-Ca.) from the House Intelligence Committee. The CBC also called on Congress to create an independent commission to conduct the Trump-Russia investigation.

“The Congressional Black Caucus calls on Speaker Ryan to put patriotism over party.

“Speaker Ryan needs to remove Congressman Nunes from the House Intelligence Committee. This action is necessary in order to meet the public’s expectation that Congress conducts an impartial investigation into a matter that threatens the core of our democracy.  Congressman Nunes’ recent actions have caused him to lose the confidence of members of his Committee, and, more importantly, the American people, and he can no longer be trusted with the information that the committee receives.

“In addition, Congress must create an independent, bipartisan commission to expose the full truth about any and all Trump-Russia connections and collusion.  The American people want and deserve to know if their government has been compromised by the Kremlin.

“We hold the leaders of our intelligence community to a high ethical standard and the brave men and women who are members of this community strive to meet it every day.  Consequently, as chairman of one of the congressional committees that oversees the intelligence community, Congressman Nunes must be held to an even higher ethical standard. He has fallen far short of that standard and should be removed from the committee.”
